The Future of Mobile Video
The world of online video is continuing to grow at an exponential rate and with tablets and smart phones dominating the market, if you’re not using online video you’re missing out. There’s traffic out there you’re missing and there are conversions you’re then missing as a result. Online video is more than a way of show casing the latest music videos and it’s about more than cats playing the piano, it’s a way for you to get your site appearing in more blended search results, get more click-throughs, increase your average visitor time on site, lower your bounce rate and increase your conversion rate. There’s no website out there that can’t find some productive use of video and as the web progresses it’s only going to get bigger.
We’ve all seen QR Codes popping up all over the place and they can be a great way of utilising video to increase your overall revenue. These are those small boxes of black and white squares; they are scanned by your smart phone where they take the user straight to a URL or some piece of digital information. When they’re coupled with your online video efforts these QR Codes can be incredibly powerful.
For example if Bob has a rather large hardware store and once a week he advertises in the local press and makes sure to run a QR Code. This QR Code takes you to a video on his website, he knows you’ve viewed the advertisement in the paper and you’ve seen the special offers he has on this week so his video walks you round his store. He explains the general layout and tells you where all the special offers are this week. Now you’ve seen what his store looks like and you’ve noticed a few other things he sells that you’d completely forgotten you needed.
If you’re using any form of offline marketing and you’re not using QR Codes then you’re missing out. Its one thing placing a URL at the end of your print marketing but that involves waiting for people to make the effort pull open their browser on their smart phone and actually type the URL into the address bar or into their search engine. If they’re searching for your website in their search engine you’ve then got to hope they’ll click on your site before they distracted by something else (like a paid ad or one of the other sites in the organic results page).
This isn’t just a great trick for ecom sites; they can work on any site. If you have a business card have a QR Code that takes someone to your profile page on your company website. Instead of having a page of straight text make sure there’s a video where you introduce yourself to give you a more personable edge. If you deliver a product that comes in any form of packaging have a QR Code on that packaging that goes to a page inviting video customer feedback in return for 10% of their next order.
